National Sylvia Day is celebrated annually on July 5th to honor and recognize all the Sylvias worldwide. Sylvia is a feminine name with Latin roots that is linked to the woodland species Silva, symbolizing the “spirit of the wood.” This name also has connections to Roman mythology, as Silvia is the goddess of the forest and Rea Silvia was the mother of Romulus and Remus. In England, the name gained popularity through William Shakespeare, who named the protagonist of one of his poems Silvia. Sylvia Plath, a well-known poet and novelist, is one of the most famous individuals with this name.
