The Ocean Project has been organizing World Oceans Day on June 8 for the past 17 years. This event is incredibly important for our environment. The ocean not only provides us with essential nutrients and medicines, but it also plays a crucial role in regulating the Earth’s temperature. In fact, the ocean is often referred to as the “lungs of the earth” because it supplies the majority of the oxygen we breathe. We have always felt a sense of rejuvenation and vitality when near the waves. Although the occasional lifeguard mishap may occur, it does not diminish the immense value of this precious resource. If we fail to take action to protect the ocean, we will lose much more than just a vacation spot. So, let’s dive in and join forces to ensure the ocean continues to thrive.

👍 Why Is World Oceans Day Important

For many individuals, going to the beach means having fun in the sun. While swimming feels amazing, we don’t often consider what that water represents to us. It is critical to the environment, and we want future generations to be able to enjoy it. It’s likely that the critters who reside there would like it as well (there are over a million of them!). When you look out into the horizon and see ships sailing somewhere unknown, it serves as a stark reminder that we are all interconnected.

So much of our garbage isn’t biodegradable, and the ocean is left to pick it up. Dumping recyclables into the appropriate container is a good beginning step, but we must continue this practice at home. Even if you don’t live near the seaside, tell your friends and family about how recycling makes the ocean happy.

We don’t need an excuse to visit the beach, but we’ll gladly accept one. We have to pinch ourselves at times because the place is so beautiful; a sunset reflected on the water is like something out of a painting. Most significantly, the water provides us with the ideal opportunity to clear our minds and relax. Some situations speak for themselves, and we don’t have to say anything. The squawking seagulls wouldn’t let us say anything anyway.

🙂 How To Observe World Oceans Day

Take the “We are blue, tell two” challenge
You might find it unexpected, but the recommended color to wear on World Oceans Day is blue. It shouldn’t be hard to find suitable clothing in that color. However, in order to educate others about the ocean, you need to grasp two important aspects about it. These could be something you’ve learned here or from other participants in the “We are blue, tell two” challenge. It’s not ideal to repeat the same information to the person who taught you, but repeating the message helps to reinforce it. So, enjoy yourself and stay true to the blue, whatever you choose!

Make a pledge
Do you need inspiration for World Ocean’s Day? The Ocean Project’s website offers a wide range of ways to celebrate. If you prefer someone else to organize the event, it will guide you to local celebrations. Additionally, you can contribute to the environment by making a donation.

Clean up the beach
Exploring our beautiful ocean is undeniably a delightful way to celebrate, but let’s not forget about sustainability. Planning to cook up some delicious food? Opt for a reusable tote bag instead of a plastic one when shopping. If you’re hosting a party, consider using your own plates instead of disposable plastic ones. After putting effort into conserving the environment, it would be a shame to undo it all by littering on the beach. So, make sure to clean up after your gathering and inspire others to do the same.
