His television performances on shows like Ed Sullivan’s Sunday Night Variety Show drew record-breaking crowds. He influenced numerous musicians, including John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Prince, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bruce Springsteen, and many others who still admire him to this day. In 1958, it was revealed that he had been drafted into the United States Army and served for two years. Upon his return, he continued to release hits, some of which were recorded before his military service. He later ventured into filmmaking, achieving success at the box office. Although many believe his solo work is his best, he also composed music for his movies. By 1968, other performers such as the Rolling Stones and the Beatles had surpassed his stardom. However, he continued to record new singles and perform on stage for the next decade, remaining the top draw in the United States. Tragically, in 1977, he passed away from a heart attack the night before a scheduled concert tour. As soon as the news broke, mourners from all over the world gathered at Graceland, Presley’s home and final resting place. Since his death, the annual commemoration has become known as “Elvis Week,” with fans and admirers visiting Graceland in August to honor his life.
