After being established in 1915, the national headquarters of the Girl Scouts of the United States was relocated to New York City. Low introduced the aviation badge in 1916 to encourage girls to break barriers. The organization experienced significant growth, expanding from 18 girls in 1912 to 200,000 girls in 1930. Upon Low’s death in 1927, she bequeathed her home to the Savannah Girl Scouts. The Wing Scout program was launched in 1941 to allow senior Girl Scouts to fly and serve their country, but it ended in the 1970s due to financial difficulties faced by its main sponsor, United Airlines. The organization was renamed the Girl Scouts of the United States of America in 1947 and obtained a legislative charter on March 16, 1950. Currently, there are 2.5 million Girl Scouts in the United States, including 1.7 million girl members and 750,000 adult members.
