Interestingly, in 1911, Juliette Gordon Low came up with the idea for Girl Scouts after meeting with Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting. The Girl Scouts, also referred to as the Girl Scouts of America, is a youth organization specifically for girls of American descent. It organizes camping trips and community service projects with the aim of empowering young girls and teaching them valuable skills such as leadership, entrepreneurship, active citizenship, confidence, compassion, and bravery.
📜 Girl Scout Week History
In 1912, Low recruited 18 girls and organized the first meeting of the Girl Guide troop in Savannah, Georgia. This marked the official establishment of the organization. She tried to merge the Girl Guides with the Camp Fire Girls and later with the Girl Scouts of America, but both attempts were unsuccessful for different reasons. The organization’s name was changed to the Girl Scouts of the United States in 1913, and its headquarters were moved to Washington, D.C. After being established in 1915, the national headquarters of the Girl Scouts of the United States was relocated to New York City. Low introduced the aviation badge in 1916 to encourage girls to break barriers. The organization experienced significant growth, expanding from 18 girls in 1912 to 200,000 girls in 1930. Upon Low’s death in 1927, she bequeathed her home to the Savannah Girl Scouts. The Wing Scout program was launched in 1941 to allow senior Girl Scouts to fly and serve their country, but it ended in the 1970s due to financial difficulties faced by its main sponsor, United Airlines. The organization was renamed the Girl Scouts of the United States of America in 1947 and obtained a legislative charter on March 16, 1950. Currently, there are 2.5 million Girl Scouts in the United States, including 1.7 million girl members and 750,000 adult members.

It inspired a generation of female astronauts, pilots, celebrities, senators, and others.
Confidence, camping, outdoor skills, first aid, cooking, and DIY are just a few of the life skills that every member gains as they go through the organization. The Girl Scouts also offer challenges and initiatives, such as the cookie business, to encourage young girls’ leadership, entrepreneurship, STEM study, and creativity.
