📜 NanoDays History

Jones became interested in nanotechnology during her time at North Carolina State, where she had the opportunity to work with Dr. Gregory Parsons in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Dr. Parsons, who was a distinguished professor in STEM education, welcomed her to the N.C. State Nanotechnology Initiative, which was just starting out at the time. Jones took charge of the teaching aspect of the initiative and played a pivotal role in its development.

Recognizing the need to spread awareness about nanotechnology beyond graduate students, Jones established NanoDays as an annual event. This event aimed to provide information and educate people about nanotechnology. The Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network saw the potential in NanoDays and turned it into a nationwide event. Jones served on the organization’s advisory board and led this national initiative.

In 2016, NanoDays were successfully hosted at more than 250 scientific museums, research institutes, and universities across the United States, from Puerto Rico to Hawaii.

NanoDays Facts

👍 Why Is NanoDays Important

Engineers and scientists working at the nanoscale may now develop and build in the same way that nature does: atom by atom, molecule by molecule. All of these minuscule particles have an impact.

Nanotechnology research has broadened to embrace emerging technologies such as three-dimensional (3D) printer materials and bio-inspired materials. Nanoscale research is now concerned not only with materials and their uses but also with the manipulation of nanoscale materials.

In addition to advances in renewable energy and medicine, nanoscience researchers are inventing revolutionary materials for improved manufacturing, faster computing, and ecologically suitable habitats. These materials will have a huge impact on our environment soon.
