To support atomic veterans in receiving medical treatment, the National Association of Atomic Veterans was established in 1979. In 2021, President Joe Biden signed legislation by U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger, which included a provision to honor atomic warriors, into law as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022.
