📜 National Black Marketers Day History

Sequoyah Glenn, the creator of B.M.C., began her marketing career by working as a fan service coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars. She noticed that women faced challenges in the industry, including a lack of representation, limited advice from their peers, and unequal pay and work distribution. Glenn also observed that black businesses and marketers were treated differently compared to other companies. Motivated by these issues, she decided to start a consulting firm, B.M.C., which helps black businesses and organizations connect with diverse or underrepresented clients.

Glenn’s inspiration for B.M.C. came from John H. Johnson, a successful industrialist and founder of Johnson Publishing Corporation, the first Black media company in America. Johnson’s publications, “Ebony” and “Jet,” played a crucial role in showcasing black culture, fashion, music, politics, and more for many years. Even after Johnson’s passing in 2005, his impact on the industry continues to be felt. National Black Marketers’ Day was established to honor the influence of black individuals in media and marketing.
