📜 National Hope for Henry Day History

Henry Strongin Goldberg, a young boy from Washington, D.C., is known for his bravery and positive attitude despite facing adversity. He was born on October 25, 1995, to Allen Goldberg and Laurie Strongin. Unfortunately, just two weeks after his birth, he was diagnosed with a rare genetic illness called Fanconi Anemia. This led to frequent hospital visits for Henry, but he remained resilient and determined throughout his medical treatments. Despite his terminal illness, Henry lived life to the fullest, participating in activities like sports and enjoying the simple joys of childhood, such as catching fireflies.

In their search for a cure for Henry’s illness, his parents discovered that a stem cell transplant was his best chance of survival. Hoping to find a match, they had another child in 1996, but unfortunately, the sibling was not a suitable donor. Tragically, Henry passed away in 2002, leaving his family heartbroken. However, his parents channeled their grief into creating the Hope for Henry Foundation in 2003. This organization has since impacted the lives of over 60,000 children across ten different hospitals.

Inspired by Henry’s resilience, his mother wrote a book called “Saving A Henry: A Mother’s Journey” in 2010, to honor her son’s experience. Additionally, National Hope for Henry Day was established to expand the reach of their charitable work and spread awareness about their cause.
