March 4 is a unique day because it shares a similarity with a military command, “march forth!” Therefore, it is appropriate that we celebrate the men and women serving in the military on this day, known as National G.I. Day. Since 1940, members of the U.S. military, such as those in the Army, Air Forces, and Marines, have been called G.I.s. Today is a day to honor and appreciate their contributions with a heartfelt embrace, whether it be literal or symbolic.

National Hug a G.I. Day Facts
Why Is National Hug a G.I. Day Important
There are 1.4 million active-duty military troops in the United States who have dedicated their lives to serving their nation, and we appreciate each and every one of them! We are grateful that these G.I.s have decided to spend their lives serving in the military.
Some soldiers make the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our nation, and we are eternally thankful to those who have sacrificed their lives. However, every G.I. makes sacrifices, whether it’s being away from their family while deployed, moving around the country and the world every few years as they are transferred to where they are most needed, or facing stress and danger as they put themselves in dangerous and complicated situations.
While the primary mission of GIs is to defend the United States, they accomplish much more than that. They also respond to natural catastrophes, conduct rescue operations, and give humanitarian aid. They serve as US ambassadors across the world, and we are honored to have them represent us!
