The American Library Association (ALA) co-sponsors the annual event, which takes place in April and aims to promote various goals. Originally, some of these goals were seen as overly ambitious, but this week seeks to improve American household incomes, health, and family life. National Library Week coincides with other events such as Support Teen Literature Day, School Library Month, and National Bookmobile Day. It was first established in 1958 with the theme “Wake up and read!” This observance includes a wide range of libraries, including school, public, academic, and university libraries. Interestingly, the 2020 theme is “Find Your Place at the Library,” even though many libraries are currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, libraries typically offer a wealth of services and digital resources that can still be accessed.
