📜 National Wisconsin Day History

Jean Violet, the first European settler in Wisconsin, arrived during the French period and paved the way for other Europeans to settle in the area. In 1763, the British took control of Wisconsin, but it was not until the Treaty of Paris in 1783 that the United States gained complete authority over the state. However, it wasn’t until the War of 1812 that the United States truly established its power in Wisconsin. Despite gaining control, there were several conflicts fought in and for Wisconsin. It went through various territorial changes until it became its own independent Wisconsin Territory in 1836.

Finally, on May 29, 1848, Wisconsin officially joined the United States as the 30th state. Since then, Wisconsin has been known for its ethnic diversity, abundant resources, and significant role in government modernization. The state has earned various nicknames, such as Dairy Land and Badger State, reflecting its attractions and characteristics. In 2019, Governor Tony Evers designated February 15th as National Wisconsin Day to honor and acknowledge the state, its residents, and those who have contributed to its development.
