The United States Army Intelligence and Security Command was formed after merging with a military intelligence branch of the Army. The 265th Army Security Agency, an airborne unit, was part of this command. It was included in the 101st Airborne Division, which was established at Fort Campbell on April 21, 1967. During the Vietnam War, one of the division’s advanced units was stationed in Vietnam.

The emblem of the 265th ASA company depicts a bat. This choice of symbol is attributed to the bat’s association with mystery and secrecy, qualities that align with the agency’s surveillance and intelligence work. The unit’s slogan, “Through the Night,” requires its members to possess bat-like attributes in order to be effective. The contributions of the 265th Radio Research Company (RRC), which operated under classified services, remained undisclosed for many decades.
