π Ravenclaw Pride Day History
According to the legend, Hogwarts was built by four powerful wizards of their time: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin, and Rowena Ravenclaw. Each of these founders gave their name to one of the four Hogwarts Houses. Ravenclaw, in particular, has a tragic story behind its origin.
Rowena Ravenclaw, known for her intelligence, creativity, and beauty, helped establish Hogwarts alongside her classmates. As a close friend of Helga Hufflepuff, she was responsible for choosing the name and location of the school. According to myth, Ravenclaw had a dream about a hog covered in warts, which led her to a cliff near a lake. She was also the mastermind behind the complex maze of hallways and the ever-changing stairs in Hogwarts.
Ravenclaw, along with the other founders, taught at Hogwarts and focused on students who were studious and had exceptional intelligence. Her own daughter, Helena, was among her students. However, Helena became consumed by jealousy and desired to surpass her mother’s reputation and popularity. She coveted a diadem that Ravenclaw possessed, believing it would make her more powerful and intelligent. In an act of betrayal, Helena stole the diadem, and Ravenclaw kept this secret from the other founders, fleeing to Albania to hide her daughter’s actions. The disappearance of the Lost Diadem of Ravenclaw became a mysterious event at Hogwarts.
Ravenclaw sent a student named Roman Ungern von Sternberg to find her daughter and bring her back safely. Sternberg had been in love with Helena and eagerly accepted the task. He traced her to an Albanian forest, but Helena refused his offer to return to Scotland and Hogwarts. Enraged by her rejection, Sternberg impulsively killed Helena and immediately regretted his actions. Overwhelmed by guilt and despair, he took his own life at the same location where he had loved Helena.
Both Sternberg and Helena eventually returned to Hogwarts as ghosts, haunting its halls as the house ghosts for their respective houses. Helena became known as “The Grey Lady” for Ravenclaw, while Sternberg became the “Bloody Baron” for Slytherin. It is believed that Ravenclaw, devastated by her daughter’s betrayal, died not long after the tragic events unfolded.
