Myanmar then introduced an innovative approach to teak cultivation, revolutionizing the teak wood industry.

The first teak plantation outside of Asia was established in Nigeria in 1902, initially using Indian teak seeds. However, as the Taungya technique became more popular, Myanmar’s seeds were imported and utilized, leading Nigeria’s teak plantations to unprecedented success. In Trinidad and Tobago, teak was planted for the first time in the Americas. In 2019, Westminster Teak established Teak Awareness Day.
