📜 Tex Avery Day History

Avery started his career in Los Angeles in 1928 and initially did low-level work before becoming an inker at Winkler Pictures. Although the studio didn’t last long, he got the opportunity to work on the animated short film “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.” He then moved on to Universal Studio Cartoons (Walter Lantz Productions) as an inker and quickly progressed to become an animator by 1930. Working alongside Bill Nolan, Avery had the freedom to be creative. In 1935, he left Walter Lantz Productions and convinced Warner Bros. producer Mr. Leon Schlesinger that he was a skilled director. Over the years, Avery created his masterpieces, introducing less-realistic cartoon characters like Porky Pig, which was a departure from the realism associated with Disney. Avery’s bold and innovative ideas and techniques revolutionized the world of cartoons. He had a successful career and his characters are still popular today. To honor his contributions, Avery’s hometown of Taylor, Texas, designated February 22 as a local holiday.
