The game, also known as “Ringer” or “Ring Taw,” involves 49 marbles arranged in a ring. Two teams, consisting of six players each, use larger marbles called “shooters” to knock other marbles out of the ring. The objective is for a team to eliminate the most marbles in order to win. Initially, clay marbles were used, but in 1962 glass marbles were introduced. Today, the marble competition is still held in Tinsley Green, England. Initially, only British teams participated and emerged victorious, but in 1992 the TennKy Sharpshooters from Tennessee and Kentucky became the first foreign team to win the trophy.
